AGA, or Androgenetic Alopecia, is the most common cause of hair loss for men. Compared to other types of hair loss, it is characterized by gradual thinning of hair around the forehead hairline and on the top of the head with onset after puberty. There is an increase of thin, short hair, making the thinning hair stand out more.

One of the causes of AGA is a male hormone called dihydrotestostorene (DHT) which is generated by 5-alpha reductase (Type I and Type II). Traditionally, the treatment of AGA targeted at decreasing Type II 5-alpha reductase with oral agent Propecia. However, the new medicine Zagallo decreases both Type I and Type II 5-alpha reductase. Male pattern hair loss is progressive. If left untreated, it will gradually progress. By starting the treatment early, it has become possible to suppress the progression to a certain extent.
